Fourteen years ago, Fenwick Software built its EDI add-on for Navision (now Dynamics NAV). Our first client used it to electronically receive orders from, and send invoices to, Bunnings and Mitre 10. Since then we have implemented it many times, providing our clients with more efficient and accurate trading. Historically our EDI solution has relied on a third-party EDI Integrator to act as the intermediary to handle message exchange and document translation. We found that often this led to client frustration, having to deal with an additional company and software. We also found that the costs to implement and support the middleware, and the charges for ongoing transactions, were quite high, so we decided to extend our EDI add-on to provide a full end-to-end solution.
