Apps for Dynamics 365 "Tenerife"

Between April and June this year, Microsoft will release a new product which is currently branded Dynamics 365 with the code name “Tenerife”. Dynamics 365 “Tenerife” will be Microsoft’s cloud ERP solution for the small/medium business market, and will be a cloud-based version of Dynamics NAV.

“Tenerife” will offer all the functionality currently available in NAV, including functionality that is currently in the Extended Pack, along with the ability to enhance functionality via ‘Extensions’ or ‘Apps’.

Dynamics 365 “Tenerife” will be Microsoft’s cloud ERP solution for the small/medium business market, and will be a cloud-based version of Dynamics NAV.

Similar to a traditional Dynamics NAV enhancement, an App will change, or add to the existing functionality of the software. However, unlike a traditional enhancement, it will not affect the core code base. This means that as Microsoft roll out monthly updates to the “Tenerife” product, all worldwide users will be on the same code base, and able to update their core application. Apps will enable you to significantly extend the standard functionality of the product but they do have some limitations and do not offer the complete capability of a traditional enhancement.

At Fenwick Software we are already working on Apps. We have converted the Fenwick Gold granule Discontinued Master Data (which simplifies the maintenance of master data lists) to an App and it will soon be available. We are working on converting other Fenwick Gold granules to Apps, most recently SMS Integrator  (which allows sending and receiving SMS notifications directly from NAV) and then over the next six months: Advanced Notifications, Field Security, and Receivables/Payables Management.

Fenwick Software has been implementing NAV for almost 20 years, and we are ready to implement “Tenerife” the day it is released by Microsoft, with extended Gold App functionality. There will also be the option of a smooth transition from “Tenerife” to NAV, should you require specific enhancement not available in “Tenerife”, to ensure that you can operate with the same system as your business grows.
